Current Ongoing Projects

My vision as a writer is to create stories that leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of readers, stories that invite reflection, shift perspectives, and nurture inner growth. Every story I write is rooted in truth, drawn from my lived experiences.

Aria's Rabbit

The Vision

Aria’s Rabbit was inspired by my daughter Areti and the unconditional love she has shown for her stuffed rabbit, a love that has carried her from childhood into the challenges of adolescence.

Through her beautiful autistic lens, Areti has sometimes struggled to fit in, but her rabbit has remained a constant source of safety, identity, and unconditional love. I also wanted to honour her late grandfather, whose quiet wisdom shaped her life, by weaving his presence into the story.

I hope that children reading this book will know, without question, that they are loved just as they are—that they never need to change to be worthy.

This is the second children’s book I am publishing, the first – Poppy’s Miracle – was inspired by my younger son’s journey with ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder and Dyspraxia. I wrote it to equip and empower children with ADHD and to help them discover their innate gifts instead of focusing so much on that dreaded word ‘disorder’. It has been used in schools, by child therapists and parents with encouraging testimonials, fueling my desire to create more books for children with meaningful messages derived from real stories – our stories.

Would you like to sponsor the publication of Aria’s Rabbit? You name and even an image of you, your business or a special loved one, can be weaved into the story and in the acknolwedgements. Contact me on michelle@wordsforhealing.org, or What’sApp 07598328317 (UK)

Foster Bear

A few years ago, I was commissioned by a UK fostering provider to write a children’s book called Foster Bear — a story created to help young learners understand what life can feel like for a child in foster care. The aim was for schools to use the book as a teaching tool and to send it home with a soft toy bear so families could read together, opening gentle conversations about empathy, belonging, and the importance of loving homes.

As part of the project, I wrote teacher notes at the end of each chapter to support classroom discussion and help educators explain key concepts and emotions that children might find difficult to name or understand.

By the time the book was completed, the fostering provider had a change in leadership and chose not to move forward with publication. But my heart has stayed with this project because I know it matters.

According to the most recent 2024–2025 data:

  • There are over 83,000 looked-after children in England, and an estimated 105,000–107,000 across the UK.

  • While many children are already placed in loving homes, there remains a shortage of over 6,000 foster families ready to support children in need of care, stability, and connection.

I speak into this story not as an observer, but from lived experience — I grew up in care as a foster child, and later became a foster carer myself. Because of that journey, and the insights I received from foster services and children’s social care professionals, this book is grounded in reality, tenderness, and hope.

This project isn’t finished — and it shouldn’t be. Foster Bear needs to be published, to reach classrooms, families, churches, and community organisations who want to plant seeds of understanding, compassion, and action in the next generation.

I am seeking sponsors, supporters, organisations, churches, and businesses who share the vision of:

  • empowering schools with resources that nurture empathy,

  • supporting families as they open their homes and hearts,

  • and ensuring every child hears, “You belong.”

If you feel led to help bring this book into the world  I would love to connect with you.

Poppy's Miracle: A Story Series of Healing and Hope

Poppy’s Miracle began as my first children’s book, inspired by the true story of a little dog rescued from a beach in Greece after being abandoned, and brought to the UK to begin a new life with her adoptive family. At its heart, it is a story of rescue, belonging, and love that crosses borders — a testament to how even the smallest life can carry a miracle within it.

Over time, this story has grown into a wider vision.

I now see Poppy’s Miracle as the beginning of a series of six books, following Poppy as she becomes a therapy dog and visits different animal assisted therapy places and people with different needs, each story gently introducing a particular form of disability or emotional challenge, and revealing the unique comfort, safety, and healing that therapy animals can bring.

This vision is shaped by several strands of my own life:

  • My deep love for Poppy and the unfulfilled dream of seeing her trained as a therapy dog.

  • My studies in Animal Assisted Therapy.

  • And my childhood, where dogs (and books) were often my only safe companions, offering unconditional love when no adult could.

These stories are born from the belief that animals can become bridges of trust, presence, and peace for those who have known trauma, difference, or isolation. Through Poppy’s gentle eyes, children will learn about empathy, disability, emotional safety, and the quiet power of animal companionship.

The framework for all six stories already exists, but they need further development, illustration, and funding in order to be published and shared with schools, families, therapy settings, and care environments.

My hope is that Poppy’s Miracle will grow into a series that not only delights children, but also sows seeds of understanding, tenderness, and hope,  showing that healing often comes on four paws, with a wagging tail and a heart that loves unconditionally.
